We will meeting in February for a sharing meeting. Members and guests are invited to bring items they have made or just find interesting to share with others. This is always a fun meeting.

March will feature Patsy Silva, an experienced and talented bead artist talking about her work.

May brings Liz Berg for a workshop on Surface Design as well as an evening lecture. Liz recently wrote a series of articles for Quilting Arts magazine. Don't miss this one.

All meetings start at 7 p.m. at the Shapard Garden and Art Center in McKinley Park. There is free parking in the rear.

This is a terrific eye candy website (not that I wouldn’t mind having some of her fabrics. This is the website of Marjorie Lee Bevis, a fabric marbling artist in Oakland, OR. She marbles both cotton and silk. The colors are intense and colorful, and I love looking at the samples.

This is a beautiful bead site. It includes galleries of numerous bead artist (many of whom sell on Ebay), and there are some knockout beads. You can choose to sort by category or gallery, and there are links to partner sites. This is another great eye candy site.

One of the partner sites of beadartists.org, this site is for larger glass pieces…sculptures and vases. It is a good thing I don’t have room for more vases.

Liz Berg to present a program and workshop in May 2007

Liz Berg, Art Quilter, will present a workshop followed by a program in May 2007. Liz recently had a two part article in the Spring 2006 and Summer 2006 issues of Quilting Arts Magazine. Her workshop is titled “Introduction to Surface Design”. During the all day workshop. Liz will bring paints, coloring agents and other supplies and she will introduce students to various ways of adding color to white fabric. Students will leave with several yards of fabric ready to use in new works. There will be a signup form in the next newsletter. Liz’s lecture will present a fun look at how a traditional quilter became an art quilter. Includes a trunk show along with a power point presentation so that the audience may follow this evolution in quilting.Enjoy the irreverence of someone who was fearful of the quilt police to that of an artist whose quilts are accepted, and win awards, in both quilt and art shows (where they don't check stitch length!).

Bus Trip to See “The Quilts of Gee’s Bend” at the De Young Museum

Join us on a bus trip to the de Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park to view the Quilts of Gee’s Bend exhibit. This exhibit is a collection of quilts made by four generations of African American women who lived on the Alabama River. The quilts were pieced from scraps of cloth, and are remarkable for their design, originality, and beauty. This is the last stop in the three-year nationwide tour of this exhibit. After spending the morning at the de Young, we will be going to the Ferry Building, at the foot of Market Street on the Embarcadero, leaving from there to return to Sacramento. The Ferry Building is one of the premier shopping venues on the Embarcadero, and features an extensive list of shops (many celebrating food) and restaurants, with a great view of the bay. SCTA Annual Art to Wear Show & Sale Coming November 11th

Art to Wear Is Coming the Second Saturday in November, November 11, 2006
Fashion Show starts at 10:00 a.m., Show 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., 6 - 8 p.m. at the Shepard Garden and & Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Boulevard, Sacramento

You still have time to submit an application to sign up as a vendor, or to volunteer at the annual SCTA Art to Wear and More show. We need volunteers to check in the vendors on Friday, November 10th. We also need models for the fashion show, folks to cashier and wrap, as well as volunteers to handle check out at the end of the day. If you are interested, send the form to Vickie Sarantopulos, or email her at drvsmft@sbcglobal.net.

This year we are going to features hands-on demos on the patio between 11 am – 4pm. If you would like to spend an hour or two demonstrating your art or craft technique, please contact Vera Latimer or Vickie.

Two by Two: A lecture and fashion show by Rami Kim

This trunk show is Rami’s new, fun way to show her award-winning pieces. When Rami creates an art-to-wear ensemble she makes matching quilts, bags, and dolls with the same designs and techniques. Over the years she has developed so many matching pairs that she wishes to share these fun and beautiful sets, and to talk about how to apply the same techniques and designs to different projects as wearable arts, quilts, dolls, and bags.
